Perfection in taste

Robert Groot Koerkamp, born in Klarenbeek, Holland joined Viewmount House Restaurant in January 2018. He was previously Executive Sous Chef in Cliff at Lyons, Celbridge, Co Kildare.

Robert was born into food. His parents had a bakery (Fourth Best in Holland) adjacent to his home and he was helping his father from a very early age. Their garden had an abundance of fruits and herbs which helped him appreciate natural ingredients. At the age of 13 he had his first kitchen job and worked weekends and holidays. College for Robert was working 4 days per week and attending college 1 day. When he reached 17 years of age he worked in “Olivio”( 1 Star Michelin ). During his 4 years in college he had to move job each year and this instilled his passion for food and carved out his career as a chef.

Robert came to Ireland after college, initially for 3 months but settled here (with a brief return to his home country).

His style is classic with a modern touch. He believes in using local produce and utilising fresh ingredients from the garden. Having being trained in Michelin Star restaurants has rooted in him the importance of training young chefs on the job and allowing them to grow.

Already impressing regulars at VM Restaurant, Robert is looking forward to changing his menu regularly with in season ingredients.
